What is the opera like?
Opera traditions began hundreds of years ago, which has resulted in a large repertoire of unique stories, characters and languages. At Opera Fayetteville, we specialize in modern operas (written after 1950) that are all sung in English! They are all fully sung without microphones and with orchestra or piano accompaniment!

What should I wear?
Opera isn't necessarily a staid occasion! You can feel free to wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable, keeping in mind each unique venue (some maybe be outdoors). Some audience members will dress for a big night out while other will be more casual in jeans or khakis.

When should I clap?
The best rule of thumb, is just to follow the rest of the audience! Common times to clap are after arias, big ensemble numbers, at the end or an act and the end of the show. It's a great way to show your appreciation for the artists' work.

Can I bring children?
We love to see children at the opera, but you will ultimately be the best judge as to whether they can sit through a show or not! If you are bringing a child, we suggest purchasing seats near the aisle for easy access to a rest room and lobby. Please contact us to make sure the show us appropriate for children, as some might not be.
